Slimed!

  Science is fun! Today we created slime in our classroom. Students saw that, strangely enough, some mixtures ( if they are polymers)  have the properties of both solid and liquid. We mixed borax and water, adding to that  a mixture of glue and water, with some food color for extra interest.  Suddenly, we had our slime. It was fun to observe the process. Here are a few photos from the classroom today. A special thanks to Caleb's dad, Tim who was on hand to assist!  Thanks also to those who sent in extra glue so everyone could participate... It is wonderful to have such thoughtful support for our class!  Dr. Dunkel stopped by about 2:20 and heard all about the properties of "slime".

Harris Engineers Teach Us About Electricity!

Today Harris engineers brought Snap Circuit boards and did a cool science lab on how electricity travels! Working with a partner we tried all sorts of projects using alarms, fans, and gyroscopes!

Our classes are loving the chicks!  So much to see that we are giving tours of the "Hatchery" to older and younger students around the school. Thanks to Lincoln's grandparents for such a wonderful presentation yesterday and the 36 eggs that have been hatching since yesterday morning!

Science Fun With FIT student interns

FIT Science student interns were in class today with a great lesson about physical science topic: Force and Motion. Ask your student what they learned during this well-planned lesson!

Shark Tracker Project

This week we learned about a new app "The Shark Tracker." Mrs. Robb came in as a guest speaker to introduce the shark tracker app to our students. We even measured how long an actually great white was that was spotted in Jacksonville just last month. Students laid out yard sticks so they could see how big Maryjane really is.


This coming week students will be assigned a shark somewhere on our earth. Students will research their shark and do a report. They will also be required to track their shark each week and plot where they are on a map.

We even decided to take it a step further by contacting the founders of The Shark Tracker Project to find out if they would do a live web quest with us. We have our fingers crossed and students will be writing persuasive essays to send off to follow up my email.

We're also hoping to bring in FIT as guest speakers on sharks. While we wait for our experts to get back to us we will be researching in our Shark Teams.

Thank you for sending in flowers for our flower dissection today. We had a blast cutting them apart to identify the different parts we've been learning about.
